About the Event
The City of Langley's Arts, Recreation, Culture, and Heritage (ARCH) Committee, the City of Langley, and the Langley Arts Council are excited to host B.C. filmmakers in the first Langley City Film Festival (LCFF). Film submissions that fall under this year's theme Transitions were accepted from November 30, 2022 - June 30, 2023, for both up to 18 and over 19 categories.

Weekend Schedule
Saturday Morning - All Ages Screening
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
About this Screening
Attend the all-ages screening and enjoy 16 films made by local and regional youth as well as two films from the 19+ category. Awards will be presented for the following youth categories, Short, Medium, and Long, followed by a filmmaker's panel facilitated by LCFF.
All films in this showing have been reviewed and classified by Consumer Protection BC. All films in this all-ages showing have a 'General' classification. There is one film in the 'General' classification that has a violence advisory. For more information visit https://bit.ly/3Rwj7D7.

Saturday Evening - 19+ Screening
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
About this Screening
Enjoy two 19+ feature-length films, awards, and a filmmaker’s panel. The first film runs for 60 minutes, followed by a 20-minute break, and the final showing runs for 80 minutes. Films in the screening may present sensitive matters only suitable for ages 19 and up. Shortly after awards will be presented concluding with a filmmaker’s panel. Please note films in the screening may present sensitive matters only suitable for ages 19 and up.

Attend the Sunday morning screening to enjoy 15 minutes of 19+ Stock films and 60 minutes of 19+ Short films. An award will be presented concluding with a filmmaker’s panel of the winning film. Please note films in the screening may present sensitive matters only suitable for ages 19 and up.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the festival will commence at 10:30 a.m. Please arrive early as there is no designated seating for this event.

Sunday Afternoon - 19+ Screening

Awards
For up to 18 our jurors will be giving out six awards. First place and honorable mention for; High School Student Short (10 seconds up to 60 seconds including credits), High School Student Medium (over 1 minute up to 3 minutes including credits), and High School Student Long (from 3 minutes up to 5 minutes including credits).For 19+ the jurors will be giving out six awards. First place, and honorable mention for; Stop Motion, Animation, and or Experimental Films (30 seconds up to 5 minutes including credits), Short (over 5 minutes up to 40 minutes including credits, and Feature (over 40 minutes up to 90 minutes including credits).

Jurors
The LCFF committee has selected three industry professionals to juror this year's submissions. They are; Maureen Levitt, Christine Stewart, and Eli Hirtle.
Maureen Levitt is passionate about the power of truth in storytelling, community development, networking, cross-cultural awareness, and diversity. She has a long career in film and television, collaborating with and mentoring emerging and experienced Canadian filmmakers, broadcasters, and production companies. Maureen and her work have served to break ground, supporting multicultural recognition and visibility, and advocating for social justice. Since 2017 Maureen has been an Independent Film and Television Consultant as a program mentor, juror, and story consultant.
Christine Stewart is a west coast filmmaker/media artist whose work has been shown at many North American, European and Asian festivals and venues. She also teaches at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where she is an Associate Professor in Film + Screen Arts as well as Assistant Dean in Design and Dynamic Media. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Access to Media Education Society and is past staff/board at VIVO Media Arts.
Eli Hirtle is a nêhiyaw (Cree) /British /German filmmaker, visual artist, and curator based in Lekwungen Territory in Victoria, BC, Canada. His practice involves making films about Indigenous cultural resurgence and language revitalization, as well as investigating his nêhiyaw identity through beadwork. Current areas of interest are learning how to speak his ancestral language of nêhiyawêwin and mentoring emerging Indigenous artists. Eli currently serves as Curator, of Indigenous and Contemporary Art at Open Space Arts Society.
