Langley Arts Council receives funding in part through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
In November 2022, the Langley Arts Council requested funding to support our new 'Seniors Art and Community Programming'. This funding request was granted in part through the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) in March 2023!
This funding will support the LAC in presenting their new 'Seniors Art and Community Programming'. This programming will be held at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Center, the home of the Langley Arts Council. The intention behind this grant request is to provide free and accessible arts and cultural programming to the Seniors of the City and Township of Langley. To provide a safe space to learn, discover, collaborate, and gather, and to support the participation and volunteerism of seniors in the community.
Classes that will be offered through this programming are; Drawing and Painting Portraiture, literary and creative writing, and sculpture and 3D. Supplies, the instructor, teaching assistant, room rentals, facilitation, and administration fees will be covered by the NHSP funding, ensuring this programming is completely free to those who attend.
As a part of this programming, all participants will be encouraged to partake in an open and community-wide exhibition as the programming is winding down. This exhibition will be open for all to apply and will showcase artists at all levels of their careers. Throughout the duration of this exhibition, there will be an opening reception where participants, residents, family members, and volunteers can gather to view some of the works that have been created through this programming.
"It's an incredible opportunity for individuals to discover their creative side, connect with fellow artists, and contribute to the vibrant arts community in Langley." Mimi Sayvong (Arts Coordinator)
