About the Artist - Breanne Wish

Is a visual artist based in Surrey, BC. Her paintings explore nostalgia, drawing on the familiar warmth of memories to create moments of comfort and reflection. Working primarily in acrylic and using a vibrant, playful colour palette, Wish invites viewers to momentarily step away from the uncertainty of the present and future. She earned her BA in Visual Arts from the University of British Columbia in May 2025. During her studies, her work was featured in multiple exhibitions on campus. In addition to continuing her practice through both private and professional commissions, Wish also teaches art at the primary and secondary school levels, sharing her passion for creativity with the next generation of artists.

Artist Statement - The Colour of Then

Presents thematically and visually cohesive paintings centered around the theme of nostalgia. Drawing from found memories and personal reflections, the work explores the emotional comfort that the past can offer in contrast to the uncertainty of the future. Through vibrant colours and personal, familiar imagery, the paintings serve as a visual escape and a chance for viewers to momentarily travel back in time to relate and find solace in memory. Nostalgia is a feeling that nearly everyone experiences, yet it’s rarely acknowledged in everyday life as a powerful and healthy way to ease the anxieties of the passage of time. By bringing it to the forefront, I aim to create space for viewers to reflect, reconnect, and allow for a brief but meaningful pause from the weight of uncertainty.
