An admirer of Kathleen Tennant’s “What Do You See?” at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Center main hall gallery was delighted to learn the artist was standing next to her, and proceeded to tell her how much she enjoyed the work.

“It’s you!” the visitor exclaimed, and took Tennant aside for an animated conversation about the 48-inch X 40-inch mixed-media collage on wood.

A smiling Tennant had just finished explaining to the Langley Advance Times how she came to be one of 49 artists showing their work at the “Point of View” exhibition hosted by the Langley Arts Council.

It was an “enjoyable” experience, commented Tennant, a Coquitlam resident.

“I follow the Langley Arts Council online and saw the call for the exhibition and decided to apply,” Tennant said.

Part of the LAC “Seniors Art and Community Programming” initiative funded by the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, the event included senior artists who took part in program classes this past summer and were encouraged to showcase their work in the show.

On Sunday, Jan. 13, a reception was held to formally open the exhibition, with refreshments, an opportunity for prospective buyers to talk to the artists, and live music, presented by acoustic guitarist/vocalist Jana Seale.

Langley’s Violet Nesdoly was showing her acrylic on canvas painting,”Pigeon Party” portraying rows of the birds on utility lines.

“It’s a painting of pigeons on the line above where we walk,” Nesdoly explained.

“I created that during the year, so I decided to submit it to the show.”

Event coordinator Deepika Pandian described New Horizons as a “golden palette” program for senior artists of all abilities.

“It happened in the summer, they took up classes and we encouraged them to show some of their work in this exhibition,” Pandian said.

The exhibition continues at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre at 26770 29th Ave. until Jan.31.
