About the artist:
This exhibition is an invitation to explore behind closed doors and aging locks.
What purpose is served by these varied attempts at either locking us in or locking us out?
Artist Lin Maxwell was first attracted to these gateways and doorways during visits to Greece. How could a twig or piece of string provide protection for whatever was hidden inside? Sometimes the locks were not even secured. Who holds the keys to the ones that are locked? Rotting wood and peeling paint were another visual attraction, an indication that something had been protected for ages, untouched by time.
Lin has been involved with creating images, experimenting with themes and exploring media for a
lifetime. Teaching classes in painting and drawing has been enriching. Her artwork is owned and
exhibited in Canada, USA, Japan, Greece, Mexico.
