Artist Statement

My artwork is based in the beauty of Mother Nature. I strongly believe we have a responsibility to preserve our ancestral lands for the generations to come. I paint the beauty of color and the energy that our Costal and Rocky Mountains provide us. I have been told many times that my paintings evoke a sense of peace to the viewer, so I have been given the name: “The Peaceful Painter” to which I gratefully accept. I would like every person who sees my artwork, to realize they must take steps to preserve our legacy for everyone to enjoy.

About the Artist - Adele Fussi

Adele Fussi is a senior (71 years young) Indigenous artist who started oil painting in the winter of 2020 when the Covid pandemic took hold of her community. When she could no longer work or associate with her friends, she started painting to try and pass the time, and she found her passion in her colorful landscape paintings.

Adele claims it must be her Cree heritage that inspires her to paint the majestic Coastal and Rocky Mountains. Her love of nature has always dominated her life, whether it was skiing, golfing, skydiving, or canoeing down a river, she was awed by the colors and composition of Mother Nature and her ancestral heritage has drawn her to paint the spiritualty of the totems as she has lived on the West Coast most of her life. She has a passion to remind us of the beauty of Mother Nature and to preserve it for future generations. As a distant relative of Louis Riel, she is reminded of his statement: “My people will sleep for 100 years, but when they awaken, it will be the artist who will give them their spirit back

Adele is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She lives in Abbotsford with her husband Albert and their dog Esmi. She is the winner of the Emerging Artist of the year award (2022), she placed fourth in the American Art Awards (2022) and is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has been awarded Active Status in recognition of her extraordinary artwork.
